Welcome to the QUT Lighting website. Here you’ll be introduced to the various activities and capabilities of the QUT Lighting group.
While we have been providing NATA accredited photometric testing in the laboratory for over 20 years, we have been involved in lighting research and testing for approximately 40 years. The laboratory was founded by Associate Professor Ian Cowling who remained with the QUT for over 43 years as an academic, researcher and the Director of the QUT Photometric Laboratory.
Upon Ian’s retirement in 2016 Adrian Cupitt took over as Director. Adrian was introduced to the lighting culture of QUT early where he completed his Bachelor of Applied Science (Physics) degree and commenced work in the Photometric Laboratory while undertaking a Masters of Research program in Daylighting. In many areas our PhD and Masters by Research programs complement the commercial testing and industry engagement aspects of the laboratory.
The laboratory engages with government, councils, manufacturers, importers, developers, construction companies, auditors, retailers, lawyers, and many other groups. The lighting group performs research, testing, calibrations and provides expert advice and guidance in the area of lighting.
